The Disappearing Melee Market

It seems that melees have been a tough sell this year across the entire industry. Diamonds.net reports a few reasons for the break in demand for small goods. Not only is there an “oversupply” to sell but according to Krawitz, it’s the new synthetic market that is hindering the success of melees too.

The wider acceptance of lab-grown diamonds has also played a role. Some retailers are shying away from natural melee because of the threat of undisclosed synthetics. In addition, there is a small but growing preference to use better-quality lab-grown melee rather than lower-quality natural stones that cost the same.
